Muskrat

The muskrat can be trapped from November 1st through February 28th of the following year. They range anywhere in size from 10 to 14 inches, and average 2-4 pounds. They have dense, rich brown fur, overlaid with coarse guard hair with a creamy belly, though blonde mutations are known to exist, as is albinism. They have a long, scaly, vertically flat black tail. They are heavilly aquatic, and omnivorous, feeding mostly on aquatic vegetation, but supplementing their diet with invertebrates, amphibians, and the occassional fish.
