The Opossum can be trapped from November 1st through February 28th of the following year. The opossum is North America's only marsupial and can give birth to over 20 young. They then climb into their mother's pouch and those that attach to a teat stay attached until they are about 2-3 months old. Then, they cling to their mother's back for another couple of months, at which point they're carried away from the den. Opossums range in size from 6-12 pounds. They have grey fur, black eyes, and a pink nose. They have hairless feet, ears and tail. They are nocturnal, slow and deliberate. Unable to flee, they often fall into a shock-like state, or 'play possum'. Omnivorous, they eat insects, invertebrates, mammals, berries, vegetables and tainted meat. Highly adaptable, they are commonly found living in urban areas, whever food, water and shelter exist.
